Sherlock Knits written by Joanna Johnson - Illustrated by Laurel Johnson
When I saw that Joanna was looking for people to review her book I immediately raised my hand. My interest in Sherlock Holmes peaked with the BBC Sherlock series. I also have fond memories of listening to The Hound of the Baskervilles as a child on long car trips with my family. I love the idea of being able to make hand-knit items that connect you to characters and stories that you enjoy.
Sherlock Knits features 10 knitting "patterns inspired by the World's Most Famous Consulting Detective". Page one contains a table of contents and an abbreviation chart. The second page dives right into the first pattern. Each pattern has size, yarn, needle, gauge and notion information as well as notes. There are sweet illustrations and excerpts accompanying the patterns that add charm to the book.
I was pleasantly surprised to find such an assortment of projects including a scarf, cardigan, socks, shawl and a tea cozy. I was drawn to the Speckled Band Shawl pattern and have plans to knit one in 2017. You can easily view all 10 patterns on the Ravelry page and can purchase each pattern separately if you wish. There is a knit-a-long for the Scotland Yard Vest which begins January 1st to coincide with the Season 4 premier.
I haven't had the pleasure of starting a knit from this book but have read through some of the patterns and they seem easy to follow. The photographs are beyond beautiful and I can't get over how dapper Sherlock looks.
Sherlock Knits is available on Amazon and Ravelry .
